Glazed Cellar Doors
We are the leading installer of cellar / Bilco doors in New Jersey and Pennsylvania. We can install Bilco, Gordon, and Steelway, but we strongly prefer Steelway. It is the superior brand across the board, on all points. The advantages of Steelway are documented on our BRANDS page.
There's a few things we do differently from all other installers.
First, we have pioneered the concept of glazing cellar doors instead of painting them. Cellar doors are much like bathtubs, both are steel objects that get wet. You wouldn’t want your bathtub painted, would you? We buy the glazing directly from an industrial chemical supplier. It is a three or four component mix, depending on the application process. The glazing is a non-porous barrier between the steel and the elements, stopping all rust. Every square inch is glazed at my shop, prior to delivery. Any color can be ordered.
Second, we never use Type-S Mortar to secure the unit. Water enters Type-S mortar, either directly on the molecular level, or via cracking between steel and mortar, causing the embedded steel to rust out. We use a
hydraulic anchor cement that rates at 9000 psi (pounds per square inch), versus 1800 psi for mortar. The hydraulic quality eliminates water penetration, and the
anchor quality at 9000 psi prevents cracking between steel and cement. The bond between cement and steel is so strong it would be difficult to ever remove the unit. That's what you want and need.

TESTIMONIALS
Chris Reis - September 6, 2025
I had an old Gordon RD-1 cellar door that was in really bad shape when I bought the house: rusted out and installed over rotted wood. Eric from Glazed Cellar Door came out and walked me through all my options, from custom doors to a like-for-like replacement. He never pressured me or tried to upsell, just gave me clear, honest advice, came out and measured everything out as part of the quote, and worked with me on the price.
What really stood out was the attention to detail; he even worked to match the door color to my foundation paint and customized the paint color to fit in better. The installation went smoothly, with the new door set directly into the cement for a solid, long-lasting fit.
It’s been about a month now, and we’ve had several rounds of heavy thunderstorms roll through. The door still looks great, and for the first time ever my cellar stairs have stayed completely dry during heavy rain. That never happened with the old door.
I couldn’t be happier with the result. Professional, high-quality work, and a door that both looks great and does its job perfectly. Highly recommend Eric and Glazed Cellar Doors.
